Calgary Challenge 2019

Do you have a project/research on effective nanotechnologies for and of the following?

  • Enhancing heavy oil upgrading and recovery
  • Wastewater treatment towards land reclamation
  • Solid waste treatment
  • Inhibition of formation damage by asphaltene
  • Oil spillage clean-up
  • Natural gas conditioning and process optimization
  • Liquefied Natural Gas
  • Gas to liquid
  • CO2 conversion
  • Enhanced settling in tailing

If your answer is yes to any of the above, participate in Dr. Nassar’s Nanotechnology Research Group and earn the chance to receive a 2-month research placement within Dr. Nassar’s Nanotechnology Research Group at the University of Calgary in Calagary, Canada

About Dr. Nassar’s Nanotechnology Research Group

Dr. Nassar’s Nanotechnology Research Group is University based Research Group within the Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering at the Schulich School of Engineering, University of Calgary. The Group combines expertise including post-doctoral fellows, research associates, graduate students, visiting students, visiting professors and research technicians from around the world.
The research group is located in Calgary, the capital of oil and gas in Canada. The Groups’ objective is to develop effective nanotechnologies for energy and environmental applications to address the above list questions

Within the scope of Energy, the Group is focusing on novel catalytic processes for enhancing heavy oil upgrading, recovery, hydrotreating, and gasification. The Group also develop silicate-based nanofluids for enhancing EOR and inhibition of formation damage caused by asphaltene precipitation/deposition.
Within the scope of environment, the group is focusing on developing low-cost and naturally-derived sorbent systems with high performance and novel affinity processes for efficient water cleaning in an economical, renewable, and most importantly, environmentally friendly way. These sorbent systems can be stand-alone technologies or easily integrated within the conventional wastewater treatment processes.

Within the scope of Natural Gas, the Group is focusing on developing high-efficient nanoscavenger for acid gas removal, natural gas process optimization, G to L (chemical and physical routes), liquefied natural gas, reaction of natural gas with CO2, and gas hydrate.
